Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government will reduce customs duty on import of some parts for mobile phone manufacturing and on open cells used in the manufacturing of television sets. The customs duty on parts for manufacture of open cells of TV panels has been reduced to 2.5% from 5%. This change will essentially roll down to customers in the form of more affordable TVs in the coming financial year. Budget 2023: Custom-Duty Tweaks To Boost Electronics Manufacturing
In her budget speech in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the customs duty on camera lens and its inputs or parts for use in the manufacture of camera module of cellular mobile phone will be reduced to zero and will continue the concessional duty on lithium-ion cells for another year to boost local manufacturing.

The changes in the personal income tax regime announced in the Budget are expected to boost demand for consumer goods, especially durables, where demand has been muted. नयी दिल्ली, एक फरवरी (भाषा) स्थानीय स्तर पर विनिर्मित टीवी सेट के दाम 3,000 रुपये तक घट सकते हैं। ऐसा इसलिए है क्योंकि वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने आयात किए जाने वाले कलपुर्जों पर बुनियादी सीमा शुल्क (बीसीडी) को पांच प्रतिशत से घटाकर आधा यानी 2.5 फीसदी कर दिया है। उद्योग की कुछ कंपनियों का कहना है कि ‘ओपन सेल’ के घटकों पर सीमा-शुल्क में कटौती से टीवी के दाम करीब पांच प्रतिशत कम हो सकते हैं। एलईडी टीवी सेट की विनिर्माण लागत में 60 से 70 प्रतिशत से अधिक हिस्सा ओपन सेल पैनल का होती है। ज्यादातर टीवी विनिर्माता इन पैनलों का आयात करते हैं।

To boost domestic manufacturing and enhance domestic value addition, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Budget 2023 has proposed to reduce the basic customs duty on parts of open cells of TV panels to 2.5 per cent. This move by government of India to reduce customs duty on open cell to 2.5% from the existing 5% will bring down the television prices by up to Rs 3,000 for larger screens and between Rs 300-Rs 500 for smaller screens.
